Compound guide
Choosing the correct compound
Race compounds are not for street use.
Carbotech
Carbotech's Ceramic Kevlar-based compounds handle higher brake temperatures with less heat fade, recover faster after heavy braking, make less dust and are easy on rotors.
- AX6: engineered for autocross. High torque, 50°F to 1000°F+, excellent initial bite at lower temperatures.
- XP8: the first Carbotech racing compound. 200°F to 1250°F+, high fade resistance, very rotor friendly.
- XP10: very strong initial bite, fade resistance beyond 1475°F, with Carbotech's release and modulation.
- XP12: more bite, torque and fade resistance than XP10. 250°F to 1850°F+, a little more rotor aggressive.
Not for street use.
PFC Brakes
- 11: sprint and medium distance. Improved bite, modulation and release over 01, good fade resistance, ultra-smooth and reduces wheel locking at the end of a stop.
- 13: ultimate high bite, high friction for exceptional control. Great for high grip or high downforce cars. Very high fade threshold.
- 39: sprint and semi-endurance. High initial bite and PFC's highest average torque, firm pedal, excellent wear.
- 97: no compound details from PFC.
Cobalt Friction
Cobalt Friction Technologies develops and manufactures friction compounds for high-performance and professional motorsport disc brakes, with a race-proven XR-Series of carbon-ceramic materials. We carry Cobalt #2 through #6 for the Legend Wilwood caliper.
Wilwood
Wilwood's BP SmartPad compounds go from spirited street use to extreme racing. All work with iron, steel, stainless and titanium rotors within their temperature ranges.
- BP-10: low to medium temperature and friction. Quiet, light dusting, gradual response.
- BP-20: medium to high. Dual-sport compound for autocross, track events and hobby class racing.
- BP-30: high temperature and friction, extra long wearing, for hard braking endurance racing.
- BP-40: extra high friction and high temperature, race only, for asphalt ovals and road courses.
Calipers and rotors, too
We rebuild Wilwood calipers for Legend Cars and Bandoleros and turn brake rotors in our shop. Ship them in and we ship them back.
